Amrita Rao (born 17 June 1981) is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films.
Beginning her career as a model, Rao made her acting debut with Ab Ke Baras (2002). She then starred in Ken Ghosh's love-story Ishq Vishk (2003) and earned a Filmfare nomination in the "Best Female Debut" category.

   
Personal life
Amrita was born in Mumbai to a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family She speaks Marathi, Hindi, English and her mother tongue, Konkani.[3] She attended Canossa Convent Girls High school in Mumbai, and later enrolled in Sophia College to pursue a degree in Psychology. Her younger sister, Preetika Rao, is a Model, Journalist-Columnist and a South-Indian film actress.

Modelling
While studying in Sophia College, Amrita auditioned for an advertisement for Fairever Face. Cream. Her appearance in Cadbury's Perk Karwa Chaut ad and the Bru Coffee Bd News advertisement helped her receive offers from film directors in Bollywood.

Acting
Amrita made her acting debut with Ab De Baras(2002), and followed that with hear(2003) film,Ishq Vishk, in which she portrayed payal. she became an overnight star after the success that film. She followed this up with films Masti(2004) and Main Hoon Na, Deewaar(2004),Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi(2005), Shikhar(2005), and Pyare Mohan (2006)

Personal life and education
Arora was born in Chembur Mumbai[4] to a Malayali mother, Joyce Polycarp, and a Punjabi father, Anil Arora. Her sister is Malaika Arora Khan.
Arora had a Christian wedding ceremony with boyfriend, Shakeel Ladak on 4 March 2009 and also had a traditional Muslim nikaah. Reportedly due to her pregnancy, she was dropped from UTV's film, Season's Greetings. She gave birth to a baby boy named Azaan on 5 February 2010.
Career
Arora made her Bollywood debut in 2002 opposite Fardeen Khan in the film, Kitne Door Kitne Paas, which was not successful at the box office. Her first successful film was the action comedy, Awara Paagal Deewana. A series of flops followed, among them the controversial Girlfriend (2004), about a lesbian relationship, in which she appeared opposite Isha Koppikar.
In 2007, She made a special appearance in Farah Khan's film, Om Shanti Om in a song named Deewangi Deewangi along with her sister and brother-in-law Arbaaz Khan. In the same year, she appeared in Speed and Red: The Dark Side, also starring Aftab Shivdasani and Celina Jaitley. The films received mixed reviews at the box office.
In 2009, Her releases were Deha and Team the Force. The same year, she appeared in a supporting role in Kambakth Ishq, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. She also appeared with her sister on the show Koffee with Karan, hosted by Karan Johar.

Modelling career
Rai did her first modelling assignment when she was in the ninth grade, for Camlin Pencils. One of her professors at Jai Hind College took pictures of her which were published in a fashion magazine. In 1991 Rai took part in the Ford Supermodel Contest and also appeared in Vogue Magazine. She has been on the cover of Vogue three times.
Rai became popular after appearing in a Pepsi commercial with actor Aamir Khan.[12] She modelled for Longines watches, Coca-Cola, Lakmé Cosmetics, Casio pager, Philips, Lux, and Fuji films. She continued to model while pursuing her studies in architecture. She was named the official brand ambassador for De Beers diamonds in India.[16]
In the 1994 Miss India contest, she won second place, behind Sushmita Sen, and was crowned Miss India World. She went on to win the Miss World title the same year, where she also won the Miss Photogenic award. After winning the pageant, she gave up her studies and spent one year reigning as Miss World in London. Rai continued to pursue a career as a model until she became an actress.

In 1999 Aishwarya began dating Bollywood actor Salman Khan; their relationship was often reported in the media until the couple separated in 2001. Rai cited "abuse (verbal, physical and emotional), infidelity and indignity" on the part of Khan as reasons for ending the relationship. In a 2009 Times of India article, Khan denied ever beating her: "It's not true that I hit a woman."
Rai is married to actor Abhishek Bachchan. They met in 1997Their engagement was announced on 14 January 2007 and later confirmed by his father, Amitabh Bachchan. The couple married on 20 April 2007 according to traditional Hindu rites of the Bunt community, to which she belongs. Token North Indian and Bengali ceremonies were also performed. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence, "Prateeksha", in Juhu, Mumbai. They have been described as a supercouple in the Indian media. Rai is very close to her family and lived with them in Bandra, Mumbai, until her marriage Rai is Hindu and deeply religious.
It was revealed on 21 June 2011 by her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, through his blog, that she is pregnant. It has since been revealed that the baby is due in November of 2011.
